Make This Scented Candle Project

Materials:

• 1 long rectangular tray.  (wood, metal, glass, ceramic)
• Assorted color coordinated votives. 
• Snug fitting glass votive holders if you plan on burning the candles.
• Assorted “stuff” for decorating around the tray.  Dried leaves, cinnamon sticks, beads, flat river stones, glass baubles, pine cones, Christmas ornaments, acorns, trinkets, broken jewelry, fancy buttons, fake jewels and crystals, etc. 

Instructions:

Place the candles in votive holders if you plan on lighting them. Line them up on the tray and decorated with your stuff. That’s as McGyver as it gets!

This quick an easy project is very addictive. Soon you’ll be scouting store shelves and thrift stores for fun trays and even plates. Switch out the colored candles and the stuff to make holiday themes. It’s a great little project for the kids, too. Give them a bag or box so each child can collect their own stuff.

I was reading an article in the Sacramento Bee today “Proposal to harness wind power off Mendocino coast worries fishing industry” and it really pissed me off once I started thinking about it.

This energy thing is like doing battle with customer service at the phone or insurance company.  Dumb asses.  All of them.  Either we’re breeding them dumb or they all go to the same “Dumb Ass” school.

What is so damn difficult about harnessing free energy.  Wind.  Solar.  Water.  All free.  All right in front of our faces.  No exploration required.  All they have to do is get it to the power plants.  Something that is so pure and natural and in such abundance.  Mother Nature already did the hard part.  Just get it from point A to point B.  No refining process necessary.  How hard is that?

Let’s see…

• They spend millions of dollars on exploration to find coal, oil, natural gas, etc.
• They spend millions of dollars destroying the earth to get to it.
• They spend millions of dollars transporting it to refineries that cost millions to build.
• The refining process poisons our air, water and ground.
• Then they pick it apart and only use a portion of it to generate electricity and the rest is used to poison the world in some other way.
• They spill it and pollute the land, killing everything in its path.
• They have the technology and money to build massive refineries.
• They have the technology and money to put a man on the moon. Now THAT’S rocket science.
• They have the technology and money to split fucking atoms, something that we can’t even see.
• Yet they complain that it “costs to much” too set up wind turbines.
• It costs too much to build desalinization plants for drought-stricken regions of the world with oceans in their front yards.
• It costs too much to build solar houses. Why? They’ve had the technology for years! I know they were licensing solar contractions in CA in the early 80′s because a framing contractor boyfriend of mine got one. Here it is over 26 years later since he got his license and solar power is STILL not the norm on new construction.
• They whine that they have to get the power generated by waves, wind, and sun to a power plant a few miles or even several hundred miles aways and that’s AFTER they had already built the Trans-Atlantic cable THOUSANDS of miles long.
• This is in a world where every little thing has been digitized and where every other thing is wireless.
• They can do all that, but they won’t transport free energy to a fucking power plant so they can distribute it on an ALREADY FUCKING EXISTING power grid.
• No one ever died from a water spill.
• No one ever died from a breeze in their face.
• No one ever died from spilled sunshine. Heaven fucking forbid it ever brighten someone’s day.  I’d like to take that sunshine and blow it up someone’s ass.
• And if there was an affiliate program tied into it all, I’d sell it.

And I love the last two paragraphs of that Sac Bee article:

That coming from one of the most technologically advanced countries on the face of the earth. It blows my mind.

Resistance bands are probably the most affordable piece of exercise equipment you will ever own. They can give you an extreme resistance, strength training workout while being compact, portable and oh so quiet – no noisy, clunking expensive gym equipment.

“At Will” employment means that either the company or the worker can end the employee/employer relationship at ANY time and for ANY reason as long at it’s not an illegal reason.”

Unless it is explicitly stated in a contract that the employee can only be terminated for “good cause”, that employee can be let go for any reason that is not illegal.  Not all contracts have “good cause” provisions, so it is possible to have a contract and still be an “at will” employee.  

“At will” employment pretty much leaves you to the mercy of your employer unless you know your legal rights in the workplace and how to assert them.

It doesn’t matter if you are a model employee, a team player respected by all, received glowing reviews and bonuses and help little old ladies cross the street.  All that matters is whether you and your employer have an “at will” relationship.  If you do, then the only question is: “Did the company terminate you for an illegal reason?”

The new California hands-free cellphone law went into effect July 1, 2008.  Months ago I bought a bluetooth ear piece, but I can’t stand having something sticking in my ear, especially when I’m driving.  Plus, it makes me look like I’ve been assimilated by the Borg.  (You see them EVERYWHERE.  All part of the Collective.  I won’t go there.)  So I was very pleased to find bluetooth speakersphones that you clip right onto your car’s visor.

The BlueAnt visor speakerphone is very easy to setup and operate.  Just charge it up and then pair it to your bluetooth phone.  It comes with both a USB electrical outlet charger and a car adapter for your cigarette lighter/power outlet.  Not many bluetooth anything comes with a car charger.

When you hop into your car, just turn on your cellphone’s bluethooth and then push in microphone “button” on the lower right side of the unit and the extend-o-matic mic pops out.  You’ll hear your phone’s bluetooth sound to acknowledge the connection.  Then when someone calls, just press the green talk button on the unit which is just to the right of the very large speaker out hole.  To end the call, press the red hangup button.

The volume can be adjusted by pressing the rubber + and – buttons shown on the top of the unit.

It also comes with an adjustable cell phone holder that fits into the grill of your car’s a/c vent.  I don’t use that.  I just keep my cell phone in my pocket or put it in a cup holder hole in my Expedition’s console.

To turn the unit off when you leave the car, just push the mic back in.

There’s the standard blue bluetooth indicator light and a red charging light on the bottom of the unit.

So how does it sound?  Brilliantly clear.  I used it today for the first time.  My daughter called just as I was getting into my ride from coming out of a store.  I already had my cell’s bluetooth on so all I had to do was I extended the mic when I got in the car and press the green talk button on the unit.  I adjusted the volumed and asked my daughter how I sounded.  She said it was fine and believe me, when she says I sound OK, she means it because she’s always complaining about phone quality.

I, likewise, could hear her loud and clear.  I was very impressed with this unit.
