Can’t Afford Your Cholesterol Lowering Statin Drugs?

Back in the day when my cardiologist told me I had to be on Lipitor to lower my cholesterol, I asked, “For how long?”

To which he replied, “The rest of your life.”

The first thing that came into my head was, “You LIE!

When you’re on a statin drug, you have to have blood work done every six months to monitor your cholesterol levels and to make sure it’s not jacking up your liver.  Mine always came back fine.

Even with health insurance, Lipitor was expensive and I hated paying for it so I searched for a natural statin, if there was such a thing, and that’s when I found red yeast rice – a natural statin.  Wow.  In fact, it contains the compounds from which today’s pharmaceutical versions are derived.  Big Pharma can’t patent nature so they concoct their own secret formula and charge you and I mega bucks for it.  Assholes.

Unbeknownst to my doctor, I began taking red yeast rice.  Here’s a picture of it.  That’s the brand I was taking.

Because it is a statin, you still have to have your blood work done.  Which I did.  There was no elevation in cholesterol and no liver damage.

By then I had drastically altered my eating habits and figured there was no reason to stay on it anymore.  So I began cutting back on the red yeast rice by taking it every other day.  Blood work was still fine.  Then I began taking 1/2 tablet every other day.  Still ok on the blood work.  Then I stopped altogether.  Again, no problem with the blood work.

Don’t believe everything your doctor says.  Some of them may very well have Big Pharma in their back pocket.
